Not only does it HOLD the baseball, but its clear so you can still SEE the baseball. Logic suggests that it will also PROTECT the baseball, but I guess time will tell. My uncle, who in now deceased, gave him a baseball with an inscription on it when he was much younger. I feel he is old enough now to appreciate the gift so I purchased this item.
