I say that because it is not a splint, allows supported thumb movement, and enables the thumb to work as it is designed. Having recently come down with a painful and annoying "trigger thumb," I'd tried a splint only to find that the thumb was stiff and even more painful when I removed it. This device does not use a rigid splint. Instead, it consists of extremely high quality, very comfortable, and well-assembled materials that include two thin metal bands. The bands support the thumb on the sides, allowing almost complete, but supported, flexibility. Either or both bands can be removed, varying the degree of support. With the bands removed, the devices becomes a glove that retains body heat and helps considerably to relieve pain and stiffness in cold weather. They work pretty well and are reasonably comfortable. They do wear out. The foam and fabric delaminate and the velcro gets less sticky. But that is to be expected over time and with a lot of use. |
