Taken on its own terms, Pokémon is an agreeable if somewhat cutesy children's entertainment that emphasizes friendship, perseverance, and good sportsmanship. These new adventures (the third television series) take Ash, Misty, and Brock to the land of Johto, where they encounter new Pokémon and people, including Professor Elm, a former student of Professor Oak. (Professor Elm gives first-time trainers their initial Pokémon in Johto.) In "The Double Trouble Header," Ash is challenged by Casey, a novice trainer, after he dismisses her favorite baseball team. The comic villains Team Rocket (Jessie, James, and Meowth) trick Casey into demanding a rematch so they can kidnap Pikachu and Chikorita. When Team Rocket's scheme inevitably backfires, Ash and Casey part as friends. Woodruff the Forest Ranger offers a lesson in ecology in "A Sappy Ending." Team Rocket has built a robot to collect the sweet tree sap several types of Pokémon live on, upsetting the ecological balance of the local forest. Ash, Misty, and Brock help Woodruff route the villains and acquire a Heracross as a bonus. Suitable for all ages. --Charles Solomon

As an older pokemon fan, I can appreciate this a little more. The Johto series just improves on the first two seasons. The animation is much more detailed and crisp. The stories are corny, but they still stay on track of the main focus....Ash's quest to become a Pokemon master. Plus, with 100+ new pokemon, the Johto series can't get any better. This video is a must for any Pokemon fan. With Pokemon Johto, it's a whole new world we live in.... 9 of 10 people found the following review helpful: By Tyler Albright (New Bark Town) - See all my reviews This review is from: Pokemon - The Johto Journeys - A Brand New World (Vol. 39) [VHS] (VHS Tape) I like this video because it shows all the new starter pokemon in this video and their voices too. Cyndaquil had a really cute voice^_^. Now let me tell a bit about these episodes. "Don't Touch That 'Dile" features Totodile, a water type pokemon. And also features Cyndaquil, a fire type and also features the legendary pokemon, Suicune! There is big trouble at Prof. Elm's lab, a Totodile has been stolen! Ash, Misty and Brock have to be detectives to solve this mystery. "The Double Trouble Header" features a new pokemon, Chikorita, a grass type. This time Ash has to battle a trainer named Casey, who is a big fan of the Electabuzz Baseball Team. Casey has a Chikorita! Ash and Casey wanted to battle against each other. Casey loses and starts to cry. She runs in the forest and bumps into Team Rocket. Team Rocket tells her that Ash was cheating in the battle. Casey and Ash have a rematch. In the middle of the battle Team Rocket comes and steals Chikorita and... Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, and other pokemon look awesome in this form. Sound=9/10-New sound effects will keep your hands off the volume control. The G/S pokemon voices are super! Laughter=9/10-The Johto Journeys are laugh-out-loud funny. Baseball is really, really funny! Overall, this is the best Pokemon series of all time. If you want the best Pokemon series, stick with the Johto Journeys. It's well worth your money. |
