The end of the chain comes with a pin ready to drive home. It also comes with an extra Shimano connecting pin and instructions in several languages. You will need to shorten the chain to match the length of your old chain before installing. I recommend grinding the end of the special Shimano pin smooth after breaking off the pilot section, if you use it to connect the chain. I also found I needed to tighten the barrel adjuster just a little to compensate for cable stretch. While my old chain did not skip, the new chain skipped a little at first, but has been fine since tightening the cable a little.Update: I replaced this chain after 1,900 miles. The Park wear indicator tool showed the minimal amount of wear for advisable replacement. That is the same number of miles I got from the original chain. I understood replacing the chain and not the sprockets could be an issue and sure enough, after installing the new chain I had problems with the chain jumping off the sprockets.
